Known from the Bangweulu-Chanbeshi area (upper Congo River basin)(Ref. 42135, 95585). Present in Kasanka National Park (Ref. 95585). Type-locality of holotype of Marcusenius smithersi: 'Zambezi River above the Kariba Lake wall' (Ref. 42490). Forage species in Lake Kariba (Ref. 27602).
