Threatened due to commercial fishing, habitat loss, eutrophication/pollution and construction of weirs/dams in rivers. Also Ref. 106151. In Appendix III of the Bern Convention (protected fauna). Listed on Annex II of the EU Habitats Directive (Ref. 58342). Status of threat: Extinct (Ref. 58342). "EurTurk."
