Comments: Type locality of the holotype of Neobola brevianalis: 'Mkuzi River, Zululand' (Ref. 83897). Type locality of the syntypes of Engraulicypris whitei: 'Aapies River, near Petronella; Aapies River near Hamanskraal' (Ref. 116497). Known from Pongolo River (Ref. 13332) and Umfolozi River (Ref. 7248). Also Ref. 116496. Reports from Orange River below Augrabies Falls (Ref. 7248, 52193) refer to Engraulicypris gariepinus (Ref. 116496).

Etymology: Engraulicypris: Greek, eggraulis, -eos = anchovy + Greek, kypris = the name of Aphrodite, proceeding from Kypris, (Cyprus), Greek, kyprinos = carp (Ref. 45335);  brevianalis: The specific name whitei honours Mr. A.G. White, who collected the type specimens in the Aapies River near Petronella and Hammanskraal (Ref. 116496).
