Type locality, S tip of Buyamao I. off SE Mindoro I., rocky surge area at base of cliffs, 0-20 m, AMS I.40149-028 (holotype of Alionematichthys suluensis, 4.0 cm SL, male) (Ref. 81230). Also found in Mindanao, Negros and Palawan (Ref. 90102).
