Type locality, Caroline I., Truk, Southfield beach, 0-4 m, rock and Halimeda algae, BPBM 9310 (holotype of Alionematichthys crassiceps, 6.3 cm SL, male). Known from Palau, Chuuk, Pohnpei, Kapingamarangi Atoll (Ref. 81230).
