Type locality of the holotype of Barbus apleurogramma: 'Kisumu Bay, Kavirondo' (Ref. 2988). Type locality of the holotype of Barbus amboseli: 'east side of the Encongo swamp, south of the causeway, Amboseli National Park, Kenya' (Ref. 84024). Known from Lake Victoria (Ref. 2988, 52331, 97924), Lake Kanyaboli (Ref. 52331, 97924), Amboseli swamps (Ref. 52331, 97924) and Athi River system (Ref. 30558, 52331, 97924). Also Ref. 27629, 107916.
