Type locality, Java, Indonesia, MNHP 2967 (holotype Gobius mystacinus) (Ref. 075154). Known from Flores. Also recorded from Raja Ampat Islands and Bali; with an Indonesian distribution from Papua to Sumatra (Ref. 47567). Also Ref. 8631, 4343.
