Known from Western Ghats (Ref. 4832); rivers of Kerala like Pampa, Manimala, Kallada, Kunthipuza, Periyar (lake), Malampuzha (Ref. 43641); Parambikulam river & reservoir (Ref. 43638); Moyar, Thenkumarada, Tamil Nadu (Ref. 44148); Madhya Pradesh where this fish does not occur anymore (Ref. 41236). Found in rivers usually in deep shady part in the hilly region (Ref. 45255). Considered endangered in Western Ghats (Ref. 50614). Also Ref. 41595, 45215, 87807.
