Brought to France at the end of the XIXth century and introduced in several sites but exists only in the east central, southeast and southwest part (Ref. 30578). It reproduced successfully for the first time in a pond in the region of Versailles. It was then transferred to the ponds in Sologne (Ref. 11941). This species, which has established itself, appears to be diminishing. Among the causes are: great vulnerability during the reproductive period because it is not protected by a closed season; poorly implemented legal size at capture; and possibly, an interspecific competition with Zander lucioperca (Ref. 30578).
