Comments: Present in all basins but is presently diminishing in number; very popular but no longer fished because it is becoming rare (Ref. 30578). Known from Rhine (rare), Loire, Gironde-Garonne-Dordogne basin (Ref. 51442). Atlantic Sea Basin: Garonne and Dordogne rivers; Mediterranean Sea Basin: Rhône River (Ref. 89241). Adour river, and very likely in small coastal rivers of Brittany (Ref. 40476). Likely to benefit from an environmental regulation (Ref. 2163). In "Annexe II et V de la Directive Habitats-faune-flore". After the "Arrêté de Biotope, 8 Dec. 1998", its biotope may be protected (Ref. 40476). Status of threat: Vulnerable (Ref. 11941, 74334). Not signaled in the southern part of France in Ref. 59043 (or only extirptaed at the Italian border). Data to be checked. Also Ref. 2163.
