Known from the Alima and Likoula River drainages (Ref. 59344, 94189). Specimens identified as Hylopanchax stictopleuron from the upper Ivindo River (Ref. 59344) are probably a different species (Ref. 94189). Type locality of the holotype of Epiplatys stictopleuron: 'Oka, Congo basin' (Ref. 83895). Also Ref. 3788, 27139.
