Comments: Type locality of the holotype of Thysochromis emili: 'Republic of Congo, Kouilou Province, Lake Youbi, 04°11'30.4"S, 11°40'12.8"E' (Ref. 122428). Known from Noumbi River (Ref. 122428) and Kouilou River (Ref. 122428). Also reported from Lake Koubambi where its current absence, or rarity, may be the result of competition with the introduced Heterotis niloticus for habitat and resource partitions (Ref. 122428).

Etymology: Thysochromis: Greek, thysis, -eos = impulsive + Greek, chromis = a fish, perhaps a perch (Ref. 45335);  emili: The species is named for Emil Woolf Kentridge-Young, grandson of William Kentridge and Anne Stanwix, in recognition of their support of research in Africa (Ref. 122428).
