Found in all areas of the Magdalena River system except in fast moving waters; the Sinú, Pechilín, Buritaca, and other rivers flowing from the Sierra Nevada to the sea or to the Ciénaga Grande of Santa Maria, Colombia (Ref. 5518). Also known from the San Jorge, Atrato, San Juan and Cesar rivers (Ref. 26543).
