Comments: Type locality of Trichomycterus spectrum from Hato Nuevo, cueva de Alejo, río Ranchería basin, Guajira, Colombia, MPUJ 4190 at a depth of 947 m. It is mainly found in Alejo cave, drained by the Arroyo Los Pozones, a tributary of the río Ranchería basin, which empties into the Caribbean Sea, on the north-eastern coast of Colombia (Ref. 128935).

Etymology: Trichomycterus: Greek, thrix = hair + Greek, mykter, -eros = nose (Ref. 45335);  spectrum: 'spectrum', i.e., refers to its spectral-like appearance, eyeless condition and whitish color. Also infers to the dark and gloomy habitat (Ref. 128935).
