Found in the upper rio Curuá (above the two great falls in Serra do Cachimbo), a tributary of rio Iriri, a large tributary of the lower rio Xingu. Its absence below the waterfalls suggests that this species might be restricted to the isolated river portion above the falls (Ref. 80699).
