Type locality, Bahia, Cândido Sales, rio Pardo on road BR116, MCP 37570 (holotype of Astyanax pelecus, 5.64 cm SL). Found in the upper rio Pardo drainage, at Cândido Sales, a coastal drainage in the state of Bahia, eastern Brazil (Ref. 57404).
