Comments: Type locality, Espírito Santo, Iúna, rio Itapemirim drainage, córrego Palmital. MCP 37569 (holotype of Astyanax microschemos, 5.51 cm SL). Found only in the upper most headwaters of the rio Itapemirim drainage, a coastal drainage in Espirito Santo State, eastern Brazil (Ref. 57404).
