Known from the Amazon River basin, in the lower Tocantins River basin (Ref. 36377). Type locality: Itupiranga, Brazil (Ref. 12251). Maybe threatened by extinction due to its restricted distribution in the rapids of Rio Tocantins, a biotope currently destroyed by hydroelectric power plants (Ref. 85327).
