Comments: Known from the Amazon River basin, in the middle and lower Negro River from Daraã River to the Anavilhanas Archipelago (Ref. 36377). Type locality: small shallow bay on the right bank of Rio Negro, Anavilhanas Is., MZUSP 36952 (holotype of Apistogramma paucisquamis, 2.97 cm SL, adult male) (Ref. 58483). Also Ref. 12251.
