Comments: Type locality: Internal lakes of the Piquiri-Itiquira system, Itiquira, Mato Grosso, MZUSP 28-732 (holotype of Aequidens plagiozonatus, 9.76 cm SL) (Ref. 86505). Known from the Amazon River basin in the upper Guaporé River drainage and the Paraná River basin in the upper Paraguay River drainage (Ref. 36377).
