Comments: Type locality of Astronotus crassipinnis, R. Paraguay, Villa Maria and Caiçara, R. Guapore near Matogrosso, Rio Negro, Rio Branco. Known from the Paraná River basin in the Paraguay drainage (Ref. 36377). Introduced in Bahia and São Paulo states and the upper Paraná River in Brazil (Ref. 126783). Found in fish markets in Santarém (Ref. 12202).
