Type locality, southport seawall, about 150 m west of entrance, 27°56'S, 153°26'E, Queensland, 2-4 m (holotype of Cocotropus microps, 3.9 cm SL). Known from eastern part fo the country, between Southport, Queensland and Sydney Harbour, New South Wales, from 0 to 14.4 m depth, among rocky substrate. Another specimen was taken among rocky reef with some coral growth at Cook I., New South Wates (Ref. 57897).
