Type locality, Tasman Peninsula, Tasmania, CSIRO H 4995-01 (holotype of Brachiopsilus dianthus, 9.95 cm SL). Recorded from southeastern Tasmania, from the Tasman Peninsula and the northern and central waters of the D'Entrecasteaux Channel. Only recorded for the holotype, collected at 38 m depth (Ref. 82446).
