Comments: Occurs all along the base of the Himalayas including Kashmir (Ref. 41236), Darjeeling, Jammu, Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh (Ref. 45255). Also found in Kedar Valley (Ref. 37082), Lesser Himalayan and Siwalik (Ref. 40971), Maharashtra (Ref. 43634) and Nagaland and Meghalaya in Brahmaputra river system (Ref. 41236). Present in Nainital, Bhimtal and Naukuchiatal lakes (Ref. 89721) and central western Ghats (Ref. 92228). The population in Assam is fast declining and at present is mainly localized to certain major river systems only. Near extinction in the streams and lakes of northern India. Fairly common in Ramganga, Uttar Pradesh (Ref. 45255). Also reported as Tor macrolepis (Ref. 51161, 52665). Status of threat: Endangered in Western Ghats (Ref. 50614).
