Etymology: Pseudolabrus: Greek, pseudes = false + Greek, labrax = a fish, Dicentrarchus labrax (Ref. 45335);  rubicundus: From the Latin 'psittacus' meaning parrot, referring to the local (Tasmanian) name for parrot fish (Ref. 12965).

Issue
Species incertae sedis in Labridae according to Allen et al. (2006: Ref. 75154). This species is uncertain in Eschmeyer (CofF ver. Jul. 2010: Ref. 84883). Please send references, or more studies are needed.
