At hatching, preanal myomeres 10 and postanal myomeres 15. Pigments absent on the eyes. At 1.2 mm, the mouth and alimentary canal are formed. Fin fold continuous from the dorsal through the ventral caudal region. Two days after hatching, at 3-9 mm, gas bladder is present. Paired fins and median fins are well developed. Pigmentation: At 1.2 mm, pigment forms a patch between the 1st and 18th myomeres and also in front of the oil globule. At 3-9 mm, pigment is present as a line between the 11th and 24th myomeres at the lower margin of the body. Two pigment patches are also present between the 1st and 3rd myomeres.

At 5-7.5 mm, first dorsal fin has seven spines (of which the first spine is the shortest). The second dorsal fin has 1 spine and 10 rays. Pelvic fin has spines and 5 rays. Anal fin has 3 spines and 10 rays. Pigmentation: At 5-7.5 mm, body is transparent with a yellowish tinge coloration. Abdomen and air bladder are silvery. Black pigment is concentrated around the alimentary canal and air bladder. Two chromatophores very prominent above the eyes. Early juveniles (25 mm), have a continuous lateral line without interruption. The gap between the 1st and 2nd dorsal fin beginning to get wider. Preoperculum serrations are yet to become pronounced.
