Early migration of dorsal pigment; complex and unique pigment pattern; voluminous and rugose foregut; more pairs of ventrolateral pigment (8-10) than in B. wesethi (6-8); ventral notochord tip pigment versus dorsal and ventral in B. wesethi; optic lobe pigment; trunk series sparser and more irregular than in B. wesethi; fewer total vertebrae than in B. wesethi (41-45 vs. 43-47).
Pigmentation:
Early preflexion: 8-11 pairs dorsolateral to gut; on ventral surface of each optic lobe; 1 at ventral notochord tip; at cleithral symphysis; on branchiostegal membrane; postorbital; on snout.
Mid- and late preflexion: on upper and lower jaw; on ventrolateral margin of head; ventral notochord patch over hypural region and base of caudal fin rays; irregular hypaxial series begins; peppering on ventral finfold and adjacent area; on inner and lateral surface of pectoral fin base; 1 or more on postanal ventral midline; patch at cleithral symphysis.
Flexion: up to 12 dorsolaterally on gut; 1 or more above brain; on dorsal finfold.
Postflexion: irregular epaxial series; laterally on hindbrain; dorsally on peduncle.
Sequence of fin development: caudal, anal, dorsal, pectorals and pelvics. |
