Deeper body and shorter gut than B. exilis and D. longipes; large head with pronounced hump or bend at nape; tubular eyes directed dorsally; anus slightly posterior to midbody; pelvic fin origin anterior to midbody; paired fins large, pelvic fin rays elongate; series on hypaxial myomeres and later on epaxial myomeres; hypural blotch; lower vertebral count (34-37) compared to other genera in region. Pigmentation: Flexion: streak extending posteriad from angle of lower jaw; along cleithra; midventrally at liver; internally dorsal to liver; heavy blotch in pelvic fin base, extending dorsad over myomeres and ventrad over gut; median hypural blotch; two lower hypural blotches; series of diagonal streaks on hypaxial myomeres; dorsally on terminal section of gut. Postflexion: series of epaxial myomeres increases posteriad, complete at transformation. Transformation: gut enclosed in black sheath; on pectoral fin and pelvic fin rays. Sequence of fin development: caudal and pectoral and pelvic, dorsal and anal. Sequence of fin development: caudal, pectorals and pelvics; dorsal and anal.
