| Slender, relatively long intestine; up to 5 or 6 small spines on posterior preopercular margin; myomeres 8-10+16-17=25-27 (usually 10+16); pigment largely restricted to dorsal surfaces of gas bladder and hindgut and to ventral margin. Pigmentation: Larvae: None on head except 1 angular after about 4.8 mm and 0-few internally on mid- and hindbrain after 8 mm; 0-1 internally on foregut; on dorsal surface of gas bladder; dorsally on end of hindgut; 4-7 on ventral margin between cleithral symphysis and anus; 1-2 on isthmus after 4.6 mm; 12-18 on ventral margin of tail; 0-2 on caudal fin. Juvenile: Dorsolateral and midlateral stripes; silvery on head and gut; peppering on all fins, dark distally on spinous dorsal fin rays. Sequence of fin development: principal caudal fin rays, second dorsal and anal, pectroal and procurrent caudal fin rays, first dorsal, pelvic. | ||||
