Pectoral fin rays 22-26; branchiostegal rays 7; first dorsal fin appears embedded in skin; second dorsal fin and anal fin partially covered by skin; loose outer skin; globose, deep body; prickles on skin from 7.2 mm to 50 mm; pelvic fin appears inserted in skin pocket; pelvic skin pockets present by at least 7.2 mm, but pelvic fin not visibly out of pocket until >9 mm; head spines lacking.
Pigmentation:
Preflexion: Covering head, trunk, and anterior 25% of tail.
Flexion: Spreading posteriad on tail.
Postflexion: On entire body except at end of tail, caudal fin and distally on pectoral fin, dorsal fin and anal fin.
Sequence of fin development: pectoral fin, second dorsal fin and anal fin, caudal fin, first dorsal fin, pelvic fin. |
