At 2.2-2.4 mm, yolk-sac nearly absorbed; pigmentation concentrated on fin folds; a "bump" on head; vent is separated from rudimentary stomach. Pectoral fins are present and remain in larvae until metamorphosis but no traces are found in adults. After 3 mm, the larvae become deep bodied and pigment now scattered all over the body. At 3.8 mm, rays developed in vertical fins; eyes still symmetrical; a depression forms over right eye. At about 5-6 mm SL (34 days old), left eye beginning to migrate. At 18 mm, both eyes on right side; pigments on eyed side. At 25-30 mm, pectoral rudiment lost. |
