Description of life cycle and mating behavior Based on aquarium observations, males defend territories during the morning spawning period while females school, periodically entering a male's territory individually to spawn (Ref. 40342). After a brief courtship, there is a short spawning rush near some suitable substrate such as clumps of aquatic plants (Ref. 40342). There is no parental care, males leaving their territory after the spawning period to school with the females (Ref. 40342). Produces many batches of eggs per season and releases each of these batches over many spawning acts (Ref. 40342). Aquarium observations suggest that this species reproduces continuously after reaching maturity (Ref. 40342).
