Comments: Viviparous with a yolk-sac placenta; larger females have larger litter; mates and gives birth in the early summer; gestation period of about one year; females with small embryos have been found throughout the years suggesting a less tight seasonality of birth (and presumably mating); non-breeding adult females have been found to outnumber gravid females in the equatorial central Pacific; size at birth 60 to 65 cm.
