Shortly after fertilization, the outer membrane of each egg ruptures and turns inside out, adhering to the egg at the point where it sticks to the substrate and forming a pedicle (Ref. 27547). Eggs attach to coarse sand grains in upper intertidal zone (Ref. 35792). Incubation requires 8-11 days at 12.2° to 15.5°C, but 3 or 4 times as long at 7.5° to 8.5°C (Ref. 27547). |
