Family:  Sternoptychidae (Marine hatchetfishes), subfamily: Sternoptychinae
Max. size:  6 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; marine; depth range 154 - 380 m
Distribution:  Western Pacific: Suruga Bay (Japan), the East China Sea and off the Philippines in the South China and Sulu seas.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 12-14; Anal soft rays: 15-18; Vertebrae: 33-35
Biology:  Specimens have been collected above 150 m in Suruga Bay, Japan (Ref. 26382).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 18 July 2019 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
Country info:  Known from off the Philippines in the South China and Sulu Seas (Ref. 559). Collected during the Hearst Expedition 2011 done off Batangas and Mindoro, off SW Luzon (Ref. 95664). Also Ref. 26382.
