Family:  Labridae (Wrasses), subfamily: Cheilininae
Max. size:  6.5 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 6 - 40 m
Distribution:  Western Central Pacific: Eastern Indonesia (northeast Kalimantan and Bali to West Papua), Malaysia (Sabah), and Philippines.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 11-11; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9-9; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 9-9. Males highly variable in color with dorsal fin colors from all yellow to red or blue, and body from red to pink or white, depending on mood and stage (Ref. 48636).
Biology:  Inhabits finely branching corals on protected coral and rubble slopes. Occurs in aggregations (Ref. 37816).

Country info:  Two male individuals observed from a sloping coral rubble-soft coral bottom on the SW side of Caban I., Batangas, Luzon at depths of 35 to 40 m (Ref. 26153).
