Family:  Apogonidae (Cardinalfishes), subfamily: Apogoninae
Max. size:  6 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 8 - 35 m
Distribution:  Indo-Pacific: Red Sea and East Africa (Ref. 4329) to the Marquesan and Easter islands, north to southern Japan, south to Lord Howe Island.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 7-7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9-9; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 8-8. Semi-transparent and reddish in color.
Biology:  Occurs in sheltered reef flats, lagoon and seaward reefs to a depth of 17 m or more. Feeds on small benthic crustaceans at night; cryptic under rocks or deep holes by day.
