Family:  Macrouridae (Grenadiers or rattails)
Max. size:  31 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; marine; depth range 280 - 950 m, non-migratory
Distribution:  Pacific Ocean: Hawaiian Islands. Recently recorded from northeastern Taiwan (Ref. 54421). Specimens reported from other areas probably represent different species.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Anal spines: 2-2. Snout short, conical; eyes large, its diameter greater than snout length. Scales small, with very small, conical, erect spinules. Margins along the leading edge of the snout, supranarial ridges, and a median nasal ridge black; first dorsal fin uniformly dusky.
Biology:  Feeds on shrimp-like crustacean and squid (Ref. 1371).
