Max. size:  23.2 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater; depth range 4 - 20 m
Distribution:  Africa: Endemic to Lake Malawi. Occurs in the northern and southern parts of the lake.
Diagnosis:  Description: more or less elongated snout; relatively thick lips; very fine unicuspid teeth; stout pharyngeal jaws with molariform dentition (Ref. 55954).
Biology:  Inhabits shallow (Ref. 5709, 55954) inshore waters (Ref. 5709). Frequently seen in vegetated areas; feeds on insect larvae and crustaceans that it locates in the soft substrate (Ref. 5595).
