Description: Characterized by deep pink color; scales with yellow spot; upper operculum with large bright yellow spot; yellow bands radiating from eye; greatest depth of body 3.4-3.8 in SL; no prolonged dorsal spines; lunate caudal fin with prolonged lobes in male (Ref. 90102). |
| Occurs inshore near coral reefs (Ref. 7300). Also occurs in small groups near caves, ledges and drop-offs (Ref. 9710, 48635). Also a solitary species, sometimes in loose aggregations (Ref. 48635). Secretive, swims upside-down (Ref. 37816). |
