Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range 0 - 1000 m
Distribution:  Northwest Pacific: 27°56.9'-28°07.9'N, 177°53.4'-177°39.2'W (type locality).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 8-8; Anal soft rays: 20-22; Vertebrae: 42-43. Pigment on pectoral fin limited to a narrow patch of melanophores between 2nd and 6th or 7th pectoral rays on medial third of length of fin; appressed pectoral reaching to pelvic insertion but not to anus; caudal fin depth 7.9-9.2 SL (Ref. 40783).
Biology:  Meso- and bathypelagic (Ref. 58302).
