Max. size:  23 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range 500 - 1300 m
Distribution:  Indo-Pacific: including the East China Sea.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 18-20; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 16-20. Body with wrinkled gelatinous skin covering. Small photopores on body. Closely resembles R. watasei but differs in having a gently curved and long snout. Body color dusky-purple.
