Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 30 - 45 m
Distribution:  Eastern Indian Ocean: Andaman Is. (Havelock I.).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 6-7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 25-25; Anal spines: 1-1; Anal soft rays: 24-24; Vertebrae: 26-26. Description: Characterized by mainly bluish body color; iridescent blue stripe from middle of nape to end of dorsal fin on upper back; horizontal Y-shaped yellow mark on cheek and opercle, stem of Y forming stripe below eye and bifurcate part of Y on opercle, extending onto base of pectoral fin; yellowish brown caudal fin with dorsal edge narrowly blue, lower lobe broadly blue; dorsal rays VI+I,25; anal rays I,24; pectoral rays 22; very small scales in longitudinal scale series, approximately 175; gill rakers 6+14; depth of body at origin of pelvic fin 6.7 in SL; head length 4.9 in SL; low median fleshy ridge on chin; caudal fin asymmetrically rounded, dorsal half more posterior; vertebrae 26 (Ref. 90102).
Biology:  Occurs in rubble bottoms in an area of exceptionally strong current in 45 m depth (Ref. 90102).
