Max. size:  5.12 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 18 - 45 m
Distribution:  Northwest Pacific: Japan.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 3-3; Dorsal soft rays (total): 25-25; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 15-15; Vertebrae: 26-26. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following characters: D III,25, all segmented rays are branched; A III,15 where anal-fin spines are moderately stout and pungent, the second spine stouter than third; scales in lateral series 37-38; circumpeduncular scales 16; predorsal scales 15, extending anteriorly to anterior AIO pores; caudal fin is rounded (Ref. 118103).
Biology:  Water temperatures of two photograph sites were 18°C and 21°C , suggesting that this species is tolerant of relatively low temperatures (Ref. 118103).
