Description: mouth small, subinferior; lower lip largely interrupted medially; scales with numerous divergent striae; postoccipital region and ventrum more or less naked; dorsal fin border straight or slightly concave; caudal fin deeply forked (Ref. 81639). Two pairs of barbels; 27 scales on lateral line; 3 scales between lateral line and dorsal fin origin and 11-12 scales around the caudal peduncle; D:III, 8; A: III, 5; P: 14; V: 8 (Ref. 47441, 81639). 9 predorsal scales (Ref. 47441).
Coloration: dark lateral band on the body and base of dorsal fin black; pectoral, pelvic and anal fins with intense black border; dark zone on each caudal fin lobe, separated by a lighter median spot and a small black distal spot (Ref. 47441, 81639). Only dark lateral band and black border on anal fin are visible in juveniles (Ref. 47441). |
