Family:  Sternoptychidae (Marine hatchetfishes), subfamily: Sternoptychinae
Max. size:  5 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathydemersal; marine; depth range 250 - 600 m, non-migratory
Distribution:  Eastern Atlantic: Greenland to Namibia.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 14-16; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 15-18. Deep body and deeper caudal peduncle (Ref. 37473).
Biology:  Non-migrant. Dioecious, adult photophore complement acquired at about 20 mm SL (Ref. 4739).
