Phoxinus colchicus Berg, 1910

Max. size:  8.2 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Europe and Asia: southern tributaries of lower Kuban. Caucasian Black Sea basin of Russia, Georgia. Occurrence in Hopa, eastern Turkey has not been confirmed yet in recent years. May represent two species.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Found in a wide range of cold and well oxygenated habitats from small, fast-flowing streams to large rivers. Lives in groups. Occurs in association with salmonid fishes or cyprinids of barbel zone. Feeds on invertebrates, algae and detritus. Spawns in shoals over clean gravel bottom in flowing water (Ref. 59043).
