Distribution:  Eastern Pacific Ocean: Hawaii.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 16-19; Anal soft rays: 18-22; Vertebrae: 59-62. This species is distinguished by the following characters: one very small and weak ray in P (sometimes missing?); uniserial praemaxillare dentition; vertebrae 59-62; postorbital organ constituting 2.9-3.6% (males) or 2.6% (females) SL; short or moderately long chin barbel, 3.0-9.2% SL for 13.8-23.5 cm SL; a small terminal bulb not protruding beyond stem, 2 or 4 equally small pigmented filaments on its tip (Ref. 125186).
