Distribution:  Eastern Atlantic: Azores to Senegal. Western Atlantic: USA to Bahamas.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 15-18; Anal soft rays: 18-21. Body elongate and moderately slender. Short, blunt nonprotrusible snout. Barbel stem is black, bulb and terminal appendage unpigmented (Ref. 37039).
