Max. size:  8 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  North America: Great Lakes, Hudson Bay (Red River) and Mississippi River basins from Michigan, USA to Manitoba, Canada and from eastern Illinois to Platte River system in Wyoming and Colorado, USA; disjunct populations in western New York and Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio and Michigan, USA.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Inhabits shallow sandy and silty runs and pools of headwaters, creeks and small to medium rivers (Ref. 5723, 10294).
